THE €300 “GIFT” YOU MAY NOT BE CLAIMING
THE REALITY
- There is a widespread belief that rental deductions disappeared in 2015.
- This idea is incorrect and could mean you are losing money.
- If you are a tenant in Catalonia, you could be missing out on up to €300 (or even €600) every year on your income tax return.
EXPERT ANALYSIS
- There are two types of deductions, and this is where the confusion comes from:
- National deduction
– Requires that the rental contract is dated before 2015.
- Regional deduction (Catalonia)
– It is fully in force for new contracts.
– Many tenants do not apply it simply because they are unaware of it.
WHO CAN APPLY THE DEDUCTION
- You can deduct 10% of your rent if you meet any of the following requirements:
– Be 32 years old or younger.
– Have been unemployed for more than 183 days during 2025.
– Have a disability rating of 65% or higher.
– Be widowed and over 65 years old.
· Income limits:
· €20,000 per year for individual taxation.
· €30,000 per year for joint taxation.
CONCLUSION
- Being well informed is the best way to save money.
- Review your rental contract and your income.
- The Generalitat’s “gift” may be waiting for you in the next tax campaign.
